I spent the morning in Telemedicine sessions with patients. The afternoon was going to be intensive book copyediting revisions before my dinnertime nonprofit executive committee meeting. BUT, I needed a break to clear my mind.
So, I went out for my Seattle neighborhood walk. This time, instead of pictures or videos, please read and imagine for yourself what the sounds, sights, and tactile textures look, sound and feel like. Immerse yourself in this journey for the next 2 minutes.
The butterfly garden never disappoints, always busy with fluttering creatures.
The dog walkers seem happy.
The bees are working hard, flower to flower.
The pumpkin patch is in early stages – he wins awards every year with the largest weighing-in at 200 pounds or more.
The remodeling house workers look hot and tired.
The creepy Silence of the Lambs van just drove by – all you women understand!
The dog park with freedom in the air.
The refreshing summer breeze urging me on up the hill.
The Apple watch “close my ring” haptic touch notification announcement.
Walking from sunshine into shade and back, my skin notices.
The silent purr of electric vehicles versus regular car noise, have to be careful crossing the streets.
Constant bird sounds everywhere, nourishes me.
The haggard crow parents taking breaks on the power lines from their irritating teenage crow babies who are so spoiled.
The place where mushrooms will abound later in the fall, currently mysteriously absent.
A vacant house, about to be torn down, the electrical supply pole recently erected.
The distant water tower in front of very distant mountains.
The place where bunnies like to hang out in the blackberry bushes, no bunnies today.
Past the bush, where Jasper the elderly polydactyl cat used to nap in the shade, now having crossed the rainbow bridge.
The beautiful artichoke plant, getting ready for full blossom.
Sprinklers wetting the sidewalk, making me dance, the refreshing sprinkle of water on my legs
The postal delivery truck dutifully making its rounds.
The ancient plum tree working on its late summer mother lode.
Dodging three bees trysting in the air, whatever were they doing at the level of my face?!
Flowers, flowers, everywhere flowers.
Sweat making my sunglasses slide down my nose.
An early 2000-style Honda CRV, same color as the one I gifted my daughter, why do young people name their cars? Call it cousin of Beatrice.
A front yard chock-full of daisies.
The second half of my walk all downhill, making up for the first half which was all uphill.
A house for sale has been sold.
Three bird houses in a row, are they occupied?
Cool walk in the shade under the birch trees at the final turn.
The chickadees are cheering me on now.
I started at 75°, but now it feels like 90°. Thank you oh postmenopausal body!
Up the three flights of hot stairs to my front porch.
A tall ice water reward awaits.
Apple watch “you’ve hit your move and exercise goals” congratulations.
I am reenergized, revitalized, and now have the right frame of mind for the rest of today!
